The New Job

Well this week was my first week at TLC/Sara Lee. The cooler is constantly held at 30 degrees, which ain't too bad. The freezer is a whole different story, it is a constant -20 degrees.

Yes, that is negative 20 degrees.

They issue us cold weather gear, which helps, but damn it is cold. There are NO warm up breaks. We are either pulling orders from the cooler, or the freezer.

Damn, we dread going into the freezer, but it is part of the job, so off we go bundling all up and hoping we have a bunch of small tickets to pull. So we can get the hell, into the 30 degree part. I know it sounds funny, but you can defiantly tell the difference.

There are three of us in training for the next two weeks, and I'm going to try and learn all the tricks that I can. The bad thing about being in training with three people, is that we all have the same trainer. So each one of us "gets" a turn, to pick orders, and ask any questions. But, the problem is, while one has their turn the others stand there and try to lean too. So imagine standing in one place in, remember -20 degree weather, while this dude is learning, the ropes.

That concrete is freakin' COLD, when your standing still, but we try to pace and keep our feet moving but that don't work too well either.

Then the fans start to blow, ya better have your gloves, mittens, and all zipped up. It don't take a minute for your fingers, and any exposed skin to start getting numb.

Well, that is the excitement of my first week. Lets see what next Sunday brings me, actually that is my long week, so it should be interesting.

As things progress, as usual you can read it here...

Take care...

Mark
